چکیده

The distribution of acid phosphatase in mouse mammary tumors was studied by light and electron microscopy technics. Following X-irradiation, the concentration and size of the lysosomes in the tumor cells were increased, and final reaction products of the histochemical test were detected free in the cytoplasm and in intercellular spaces. Areas of focal degradation and necrobiosis appeared associated with enlarged lysosomes, and were more frequently detected in the irradiated tumors from mice treated with vitamin A. Ionizing radiation appeared to provoke the release and activa tion of lysosomal hydrolases and these seemed to be associated with the degradative changes in the tumor cells. Lysosomes, characterized by their acid phosphatase activity, were detected in the irradiated tumor cells prior to the onset of easily detectable cytoplasmic changes by routine histologie preparations. The use of the acid phosphatase test may represent a convenient method for detecting early cytologie changes following irradia tion.

Classification and grading of canine malignant mammary tumors

Histological grading is a good parameter to stratify tumors according to their biological aggressiveness. The Elston and Ellis grading method in humans, invasive ductal breast carcinomas and other invasive tumors are routinely used. The aims of this study were classification of mammary gland tumors and also application of a human grading method in canine mammary carcinoma. The samples included ...

Canine Mammary Gland Cancer Stem Cell and its Potential Role in Malignant Biologic Behavior

BACKGROUND:Canine mammary gland cancers are the most prevalent malignancies in dogs. There are different challenges regarding management of these cancers in dogs and human, one hypothesis is related to small cellular subset of tumor mass called cancer stem cell. These cells are therapy resistant and cause metastasis and relapse even after primary successful treatment. The well-identified phenot...

Effect of x-irradiation on the functional status of lysosomal enzymes of mouse mammary gland carcinomas.

The subcellular distribution of various lysosomal hydrolases and mitochondria! cytochrome c oxidase of mammary carcinomas of C3H mice was studied by means of differential centrifugation and zonal ultracentriftigation and in electron histochemical preparations. Tumors that received a single local dose of 500, 1000, or 7000 rad showed an increase in the specific activities of acid hydrolases in t...
